Map of Legality

We made a map of marijuana legality! Since the Farm Bill passed in 2018 hemp has been federally legal throughout the United States. Federally legal meaning that hemp is allowable in any place under the United States sovereign state. While marijuana is legal depending on the individual state legislature decisions. Think of cannabis as the umbrella term. While hemp and marijuana both fall under the cannabis term hemp is legal anywhere in the US and marijuana is not. If you want to you can get into synthetically derived cannabinoids from hemp. Which technically means it’s a substance allowed in a state that doesn’t allow marijuana but that’s difficult and you can read about it another day.

Check out the legal status of marijuana legality in each state.

Legislation in the works such as the SAFE Banking Act and MORE Act has many discussing more of what federally legal marijuana would look like. Still, it’s apparent politicians love to use marijuana legalization as a hot topic for voters. “President Biden rightly stated: “No one should be in jail because of marijuana. As President, I will decriminalize cannabis use and automatically expunge prior convictions.” Yet we’ve seen no action taken by Daddy Biden. Except for White House staff asked to leave their job for prior cannabis use. It’ll be interesting where we go from here. But as we head into midterm election season we will be keeping an eye on what’s to come.
